Local hospice looking for business heroes

Operation Hospice Heroes 300x158 Local hospice looking for business heroesWeston Hospicecare latest event ‘Operation: Hospice Heroes’ is looking for teams of participants to take on the challenge of a life time.

But time is running out for businesses to get involved. So your mission should you choose to accept… is to become a Hospice Hero!

On Thursday July 19 teams of 4-6 ‘secret agents’ will compete in a series of physical and mental challenges to see who will be crowned the overall Hospice Heroes.

Sarah Livermore, Corporate Funraiser at Weston Hospicecare comments: “For fun, fundraising and ‘hair raising’ activities, now is your chance to get involved.

“For a suggested minimum donation of £100 + Gift Aid per person, you and your team mates will work together to attempt a Great Escape in petrol go carts and dispose of a ticking time bomb, turn your hands to rifle shooting, Geocache treasure hunting, riding an off road Segway to eliminate a virus, and building and launching a missile!

“Not only will you be battling against other teams of ‘secret agents’, you’ll also be battling against the clock.”

Sarah  comments further: “This year we need your help more than ever, so we are looking to provide a fresh, exciting event that lets supporters have lots of fun as well as helping us to raise much needed funds.

“The event is fantastic value and would normally cost several times more than the fundraising target, so why not try something new and challenge yourself and others.”

For an Information Pack, or to Register Now, call Sarah Livermore (Corporate Fundraiser) on 01934 423921 or email sarah.livermore@westonhospicecare.org.uk

Closing date for entries is Tuesday 10th July 2012 at 5pm. A £25 deposit is required per person.

Business support for ‘Big Drop’

Michelle Michael John Penrose MP Gill Auden Linda Kelly Sarah Bostock Business support for Big Drop

Weston Hospicecare has hailed its recent event, The Big Drop, a success after businesses and the community came together to raise over £4000 in goods donations.

The Big Drop was a week-long event organised by Weston Hospicecare, and saw businesses and organisations open their doors and become a drop site where generous people in the local community took their unwanted and unused items.

The items will now be sold in the charity’s shops across the region, helping to overcome their stock shortages.

Drop sites at Asda, The Sovereign Shopping Centre, Brean Leisure Park, Cadbury House Hotel & Spa, Cheddar Garden Centre, Worlebury Golf Club and Wrington Reading Room collected over 320 bags.

The event also drew in influential community figures, groups and organisations including John Penrose MP, well know local entrepreneur Michelle Michael, the NGAGE 19+ Group from Weston College and the Angels from Heart FM who all came along to drop sites to lend their support.

John Penrose MP was the first to make a donation at The Sovereign Shopping Centre drop site. He said of the event: “”Weston Hospicecare and other worthy charities wouldn’t survive without donations from the public so I was delighted to support their Big Drop campaign by donating a bag full of items”.

Sarah Bostock, Marketing Manager of Weston Hospicecare said: “We are overwhelmed with the support The Big Drop has received. It’s a first time event for us and people are used to taking items into our shops rather than other central locations. The fantastic support of local businesses and our volunteers who gave up their time to spread the word and man drop sites has made this a huge success.”

Local businesses out in force to support charity

Big Drop Logo 287x300 Local businesses out in force to support charityWeston Hospicecare has had overwhelming support for ‘The Big Drop’ from several local businesses.

The Sovereign Centre, Asda, Cadbury House Club & Spa, Brean Leisure Park, Cheddar Garden Centre and Worlebury Golf Club are all hosting donation sites for the charity during The Big Drop from 16 – 23 May.

The week-long event will see Weston Hospicecare asking for the local community to donate any un-used or un-wanted items for sale in the charity’s 16 shops.

Sarah Bostock, Marketing Manager for Weston Hospicecare said: “We’re so grateful to have had such fantastic support from local businesses and we’re looking forward to a week of mass donations and a much needed injection of stock into our shops.”

The charity can’t do it without the support of the local community and are hoping to see people turning up in droves at the donation sites during the week-long event.

Sarah added: “People often tell us that they don’t think to bring their un-wanted or un-used items to us as they don’t think we need it but that’s not the case. We’ve seen a decline in the level of donations to our shops over the last year; that’s why we decided to host The Big Drop.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for people to bring in their donations, to locations they visit on a regular basis. Whether large or small, as long as it’s in good condition everything is hugely welcome and will be gratefully received!”

Weston Hospicecare is asking for anything from clothes, accessories, toys, books, DVDs, CDs and games, to furniture, homeware and kitchenware. If you have any larger items, contact the charity who can arrange a home collection with you.

Weston Hospice launch ‘The Big Drop’

Big Drop Logo 287x300 Weston Hospice launch The Big Drop Later this month, Weston Hospicecare will launch ‘The Big Drop’ campaign to ask members of the public to have a clear out and bring any un-used possessions to dedicated donation points across the region.

The Big Drop’ will take place from May 16 to May 23 and full details of the donation points will be made available soon so businesses in North Somerset can drop items off.

Diana Sorrell, Director of Fundraising at Weston Hospicecare comments on the scheme: “We’re really looking forward to ‘The Big Drop’ and have some exciting things lined up. It’s so important to keep our shops stocked so we can continue to sell high quality goods at reasonable prices and help fund the vital services at the Hospice. We would not be able to support the 1300 local people we do each year without the fantastic support of our community”.

The launch of The Big Drop follows on from one of the largest single donations the charity has ever received. Weston Hospicecare’s reception was piled high with donation bags as Hospice employees and residents of Uphill pulled together stock from the charity’s 16 shops.

Over 55 bags of stock were dropped off at the dedicated drop point at the Hospice. All the donated stock will be distributed by the Hospice delivery vans to its shops across the region including Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon, Cheddar, Yatton and Burnham.

Sharon White, HR Administrator at Weston Hospicecare said: “I have not worn or used half of this stuff for months but it’s all still in really good condition and what better way to make sure someone else makes good use of it?”

Marianna Murphy, who lives on Laurel Drive in Uphill added: “I was thrilled when the flyer dropped through my door. I’ve had some things to clear out for a while and this gave me the nudge I needed!”

Weston Hospicecare hopes that this will be the first of many mass donations to help their shops gather much needed stock.

Diana Sorrell, Director of Fundraising at Weston Hospicecare said: “Lately it has been harder to keep our shops fully stocked as we are not seeing the levels of donations we’ve been used to in recent years. The success of this month’s mass donation will really help but we’re looking to the local community to support us further in our quest for stock.”

If your business is interested in supporting Weston Hospicecare by hosting a public drop point for ‘The Big Drop’, or would like to ask your employees to bring in donations that the Hospice can collect, please get in touch with Sarah Livermore, Corporate Fundraiser, on 01934 423921 who will give you more information.

Local businesses raise money for Weston Hospice

Hospice11 300x59 Local businesses raise money for Weston HospiceDerrick’s Tea Rooms in Cheddar teamed up with local businesses to raise £225 in a week-long event for Weston Hospicecare.

The ‘Soup’s Up’ event saw Derrick’s Tea Rooms sell soup, host a soup competition and run a raffle with prizes kindly donated by other local businesses including Tree Top Carvings and Carousel.

Rebecca Nokes, Tearoom Manager, Derrick’s Tea Rooms and Shop said: “I’m very pleased that we had the chance to help our local Hospice, and to have had local people and businesses brought together when it matters the most. I’m also extremely touched by the generosity of the first prize winner who has asked us to use her prize – a £50 voucher from Tree Top Carvings – to buy an item and re-raffle it to raise even more money for Weston Hospicecare.

Rebecca added: “We’re also really looking forward to doing the Hospice’s ‘Big Cream Tea’ this summer.”

Sarah Livermore Corporate Fundraiser said: “This ongoing generosity from our community just goes to show how important Weston Hospicecare is to local people. Your support contributes to helping one in one hundred local people and their loved ones at any one time. Thank you!”
